I have had Serato for about 1 1/2 years and I just realized yesterday that I’m not even using 20% of its capabilities. Why did I just find out that you have to import and analyze your files into Serato??? I’m thinking that since I had my external hard drive hooked up that Serato would automatically read and recognize each song. So… I’m doing parties and searching for songs that I know I have on my hard drive but its not showing up in Serato when I search. Duh…. So simple… Today I’m importing 50,036 songs in Serato. Its only on 3,009 and its been running for 3 hours!
The only feature I have been barely using is the bpm feature on Serato. I went to see @kidcapri101 and @terminatorthedj on Friday and noticed how smooth there mixes was. @terminatorthedj did an incredible slow jam set! @kidcapri101 did a sick old school r&b and hip hop set! I noticed that he was mixing joints about ever 3 seconds; each tempo perfect.Thats when it hit me! I need to organize my playlists/crates by genres, artists, and BPM’s. I also have to admire Kid Capri for doing a show a day after his mom’s funeral. Dude didnt want to disappoint his fans; even though we would have understood. Prayers to his fam.
Another thing I havent done yet is set up my cue points. Being an old school dj, I sometimes look at “setting up cue points” as cheating. It’s too easy. I seen dj’s cutting up breaks by pushing a button. I know it’s crazy but I gotta embrace the technology whole heartedly. But you will never see me doing “1-finger cutting.”
